SECTIONS OF THE MEDIA CENTER

What is a Library Media Center ? In support of the district’s mission, the Stewart Street Elementary School Library Media Center provides the school community with a wide variety of resources and services. The Library Media Center contains books, magazines, periodicals, video & cassette tapes, CDs & other multi-media equipment. The Library Media Center is being managed by a Librarian or a Media Specialist who collaborates with classroom teachers to assist students with their research & gain information literacy and technology skills.

Library Rules and Procedures 1. Library Media Patrons are required to register their names to the assigned person in the Circulation Desk for client data verification. 2. Library Media Patrons have free access to all the books in the open shelves. 3. In checking out books or any library materials, the following provisions shall be applied: a. 1st – 3rd Grade - 1 book b. 4th – 5th Grade - 2 books

4.4. All General Reference books or books in sets are not to be checked out. These materials are to be read or used inside the media center only. 5. All books are checked out for one (1) week. 6. Fines are not charged for overdue books, but the students are not allowed to check out books until the overdue book/s have been returned or partially paid for if lost or misplaced. Any amount may be accepted for partial payment until the amount has been totally paid.

7. Charges for misplaced or damaged book may be refunded upon the return of the checked out books in good condition. The average price of a lost book is $ 5.00 each. 8. Early return of the books may be accepted for a chance to check out new books. 9. SILENCE must be maintained in the library at all times. Use your inside voices when you are in the library. Best behavior must be observed all the time.

Check the colored dots for the appropriate reading level. 11. Borrowing privileges are non-transferable. Students are responsible for any library materials that they have checked-out. 12. Students must form a line in front of the Circulation Desk when checking out or checking in library materials. 13. Put all the books on the proper shelves and push in all chairs before leaving the library.

14. Bringing any library book without being charged, tearing some pages from the book, damaging furniture, equipment, etc., are strictly prohibited. 15. All checked out library materials must be returned one (1) week before the summer vacation.
