Presentation transcript:

Conclusion: This image validates women that are not in jail, marginalizes women in jail, reifies women that have not made these poor choices, and silences women (families of women) that have been or are in jail/prison. It sends the message that jail is a sad, boring place for bad women. I see this image and view women that are sad. They are thinking about their future and what may come next in their lives. I wonder what their individual circumstances are and why they are there. !) “To me the image shows the ranking of the crimes each women has committed. I assume that the two women in orange have committed a high ranking crime and have a longer sentence, guessing that the black woman has a longer sentence than the white woman. The latino woman in the dress, is in the psychiatric ward and may have a shorter sentence. The woman in gray probably has the shortest sentence. I think it communicates to others that assumptions and beliefs can simply be based on how one looks” 2) “I see two women in jail suits. Looks like they each have a friend sitting with them. I feel sorry that they have misbehaved and need to be in jail. If you break the law regularly you will most likely end up in jail. Don't break the law.”
