Friendship To understand the nature of friendship To reflect on our strengths To identify the importance of having a variety of social and personal relationships

Where have we started? Put your hand up if... you’ve come to this school with someone else from the same primary school ....either way everyone will be looking to make and meet new friends

What makes a good friend? Listen to the following clip What does a good friend need to do according to this song? How might a friend show they do this?

Recipe for friendship Ingredients: 2 heaping measures of trust 2 well rounded scoops of respect 2 generous portions of affection 2 equal amounts of sharing Method: Stir together until lumps and bumps are dissolved.

What makes a good friend? Think about the friends you have now, and friends you’ve had in the past What things make up a good or bad friend? Sort the qualities in your card sort, then rank In pairs, fill in the templates on your sheet Add any other qualities you can think of

Little old Weemee? Identifying what qualities & interests you have can help build up friendships We are going to make our own “Weemees” to show other people in the class where our strengths are

Weemee? Add clothes that you would normally wear outside school Add items that relate to your outside interests Add your own hairstyle Fill in the speech bubble with some of your better qualities Add a title to the textbook to show which subject you enjoy the most so far at this school

Circle of friendship – Think, pair share How do you choose your friends? What governs your choice of friends? Do your friends have anything in common? Are all your friends the same sex? What is the difference between a friend and an acquaintance?

Circle of friendship – Swap partners Have your friends changed as you have grown older? How? Why? What is the difference between a friend and a close friend? Do you make friends easily? Why/why not? What behaviour would stop you being friends?

Why do we need friends? What is the importance of friendships? Add the 3 most important reasons to your sheet

Set your goal! Use a couple of minutes to think about which of your qualities you could practise a bit more on.....would you like to be more patient, sympathetic, generous etc? Use the “Good friend” template to help you

How have we met our other targets? To understand the nature of friendship What qualities does a good friend need? Are all friends the same? Why? Why not? To reflect on our strengths Pick your strongest quality or the hobby you are most passionate about from the weemee exercise How could it help you meet new people?
