How People Perceive Culture Cultural groups tend to view other cultures, places, and regions from their own cultural perspective. Perceptions of culture can be ethnocentric (placing one’s culture and beliefs as a dominant culture) or ethno-relative (placing one’s culture and beliefs as equal to others’ cultures and beliefs). Perceptions of places may include examples such as Jerusalem and Mecca as a holy cities; Saudi Arabia as an oil rich place; North Korea as isolated from the rest of the world
