DISCIPLES JOHN 15 Macky Shedd Family Vacation 2013 www.campusministryunited.com JOHN 15

Yeah, like what about fruit flies? This should be good.

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work… Colossians 1:9-10

John 15:1-8 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener John 15:1-8 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me…

“I am the vine; you are the branches “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in Me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples.

What does your fruit show you to be? (v. 8) This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples. What does your fruit show you to be? “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35

What Do You See In The Mirror?

(Gal 5) The fruit of the Spirit is: - hatred, grudges, prejudice, unforgiveness Love - depression, gloom, complaining Joy - turmoil, drama, fighting, worry Peace - impatience, boredom, anxiety Patience - apathy, slander, malice, rude Kindness - evil, sin, lewdness, vileness Goodness - distrust, allegiance divided Faithfulness - harshness, quick temper, rage Gentleness - addiction, selfishness, impulsive Self-Control

“Spiritual evolution never happens by chance, but is always by choice “Spiritual evolution never happens by chance, but is always by choice.” – Robert Cox I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine? Jeremiah 2:21 READ Isaiah 5:1-7

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. - Matthew 3:7-10

When John realized that a lot of Pharisees and Sadducees were showing up for a baptismal experience because it was becoming the popular thing to do, he exploded: “Brood of snakes! What do you think you’re doing slithering down here to the river? Do you think a little water on your snakeskins is going to make any difference? It’s your life that must change, not your skin! And don’t think you can pull rank by claiming Abraham as father. Being a descendant of Abraham is neither here nor there. Descendants of Abraham are a dime a dozen. What counts is your life. Is it green and blossoming? Because if it’s deadwood, it goes on the fire. - Matthew 3:7-10 (MSG)

#1 (v. 1) “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. What are we changing our mind about? #1 (v. 1) “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. Vines are the source of our fruit, good or bad. Are you connected to any bad vines? We must forsake all other vines !

This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:5-8

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1

What are we changing our mind about? #2 (v. 5) If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.

I’ll always remember this as the night that Michael Jordan and I combined for 70 points.” – Stacey King

#3 Six times Jesus says, “remain in Me !” What are we changing our mind about? #3 Six times Jesus says, “remain in Me !”

You may kiss your brides ! What are we changing our mind about? #4 His words must remain in us!

“When you come to the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you possess it and dwell in it and then say, ‘I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,’ you may indeed set a king over you whom the Lord your God will choose. One from among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. Only he must not acquire many horses for himself or cause the people to return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you, ‘You shall never return that way again.’ And he shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold…

…“And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests. And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them, that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left, so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel. – Deuteronomy 17:14-20

What are we changing our mind about? Are you open? (Hebrews 4 and 12) #5 (v. 2) …while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. Are you open? (Hebrews 4 and 12) Are you willing to be God’s hands in the pruning process for your brothers and sisters?

What are we changing our mind about? #6 (v. 6) If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.
