Phantom of the Opera Musical vs. Book

Musical Book Genre - Romantic/Drama Christine AND Phantom - main characters Christine - weak, innocent, naive in love with Raoul from beginning asks Raoul to protect her from phantom pities the phantom, does not love him secretly engaged to Raoul, not phantom Phantom - outcast from society, but not a psychopath loves Christine and would not hurt her sets her free to go with Raoul capable of remorse in the end only part of his face is deformed audience is meant to feel sympathy for him Raoul - loving, kind, protective, childhood crush follows Christine because she asked him to protect her Madame Giry - brought the phantom to the opera house as a child helps keep his identity a secret him until he kills someone, then tells Raoul where to find him. Book Genre - Horror/Thriller/Mystery Christine - main character, becomes less innocent throughout book, tries to keep Phantom a secret.
