Starter #1 How many of you learned how to write Haiku poetry when you were in grade school? Do you still have the Haiku poetry that you wrote in past years? Take out a sheet of paper. Put your name on it. Write down the topic(s) or titles of the haiku poetry you wrote when you were younger. In a few moments, I’m going to ask you to share with the class the titles or subjects you did when you created haiku poetry. Open your Chromebook to our online PDF (pp. 641 – 642)

Starter #2 Let’s review the distinctive features of Haiku poetry. . . . What is Haiku poetry? Haiku is a poetry form that originated in Japan in the late 1800s. It usually follows these guidelines: 1) It’s three lines; 2) It’s usually about nature; 3) It usually has a total of 17 syllables: 5 syllables in the first line; 7 syllables in the second line; 5 in the third line.
