GABA Mediates Responses in Co-cultures of Rat Carotid Body and Petrosal Neurons Min Zhang Department of Biology, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Carotid body is a polymodal chemosensor. It is excited by hox, high CO/H+ (acid hypercapnia) and low glucose. The ATP, ACh and 5-HT are expressed in carotid body. Those are excite transmitters. Today, I talk …. .

Postsynaptic action of BABA via GABAa receptors

The reversal potential is -38 mV The reversal potential is -38 mV. It is same the Ecl (equilibrium potential) in my experiment.

GABA –immunoreactivity

Presynaptic action of GABA via GABAb recepors

Baclofen, GABAb receptor agonist; anandamide, TASK-1 blocker; TEA,4AP and nickel for block the voltage and Ca-dependence K+ currents.

Summary GABA is expressed in carotid body chemoreceptor type 1 cells. GABA released from the CB during hypoxia, inhibits sensory discharge postsynaptically via a shunting mechanism involving GABAa receptors. GABAb receptor-mediated activation of TASK-1 or related channel provides a presynaptic autoregulatory feedback mechanism that modulates fast synaptic transmission in rat carotid body.
