Review of Chemical and Physical Properties and Changes
Properties of Matter Physical Properties: Can be observed without changing a substance into another substance. Boiling point, density, mass, volume, etc.
Appearances of an object including: mass, magnetism, physical state, relative density, solubility, and the ability to insulate or conduct heat or electricity.
Biochemistry. Basic Elements 99% of all living things are: Sulfur (S) Carbon (C) Hydrogen (H) Nitrogen (N) Oxygen (O) Phosphorus (P)
Physical and Chemical Properties. Physical Properties  Physical property: a characteristic of a substance that describes it such as the color, luster,
What is a Property? A property is a characteristic that describes an object or a substance. All matter can be described based on its physical properties.

Chemical Properties P.7.5A2 Matter Chemical Properties P.7.5A2

In You have a rock with a volume of 15cm3 and a mass of 45 g. What is its density? (Refer back to Tuesday’s notes for the density formula.)

Chemical Property Properties that describe how a substance combines with other substance to create new chemicals or how a substance breaks up into two or more substances.

Chemical Change Change that results in a new substance being formed. During a chemical change, some chemical bonds break no others form.

Combustion The process of combining with oxygen, commonly burning with a flame

pH Scale from 0 to 14. From 0 to 7 are acids, with 0 being the strongest. From 7 to 14 are bases with 14 being the strongest base.

Oxidation Reactions that involve combination with oxygen.

Solubility chemical property referring to the ability for a given substance, the solute, to dissolve in a solvent

Out Name two chemical changes you have witnessed in your own life.
