Field trip: learning & much more..!! Poonam Singh

Traditional Classroom Teaching Topic: Animals Learning is chiefly associated with classrooms resources Example : Use of picture books ,Models, Puppets Learning is competitive rather than collaborative Teacher controls learning. Students are passive learners.

Lets find out if the students... Enjoyed the class? Liked the topic? Name the animals studied today? ~ 50%( based on verbal replies) ~ 10% (based on verbal replies) - No response

Field Trips: Effects On Learning Increases interest and engagement in class. Exposes students to new experiences. Results in more positive feeling towards the topic. Experiences that can be recalled and useful long after the visit. Enhances social skills of students. Positive Experiential Learning. School programs can be enriched through inclusion of carefully planned fieldtrips.

Intervention Field Trips

Hypothesis Field trip improves learning experiences through experiential learning.

Procedure Arranged a field trip for the students to the Zoological Park. Permission granted by the Management. Letter of information was sent to the parents. Transport facility was arranged. Students were briefed about the trip.

Intervention: A visit to Zoo

Student Feedback & Learning Enjoyed the trip? Would want to go again? Name the animals seen in the zoo. 100% No. of animals students named: Minimum - 4 Maximum - 7 Average - 6

Findings Gave students a welcome break in routine. Better understanding of the types of animals. Better retention of the name of animals and number of animals after the visit. Enhanced environmental awareness.

Student Gains Learning was fun Students could relate name of the animal its habitat , shape, size , form and colour. Value of Sharing and caring Team work and confidence.

Hypothesis was proved Field trip improves learning experiences through experiential learning.
