Emergency Action Planning Part 2 Tim Amshoff LAT Moore Traditional School

Emergency Preparedness continued So, over course of next week I am lining up guest speakers and deciding which equipment to use. These assignments in this packet are designed to provoke your critical thinking. Where is your common sense? We will be using the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Red Cross materials as supplemental to lead you to certification for a professional rescuer. You may obtain certification if you do not have it for $10.

Packet page 1 Look at this page It is a competency checklist for athletic trainers in emergency response We are informing you of RAPID ASSESSMENT skills, primary and secondary surveys. We will recertify you in some skills (like choking) and showing you new skills (in like CPR). On this list, is there something new? Go ahead GOOGLE it to see what it is. Is there a video on YOU TUBE. Go on, look it up and see what it means.

I know! Some of you may blow through these worksheets. Give it a good faith effort. Push your critical thinking schools to test them. You can do it.

Think about it! CPR and First Aid skills should be receritifed every 2 years. But if you are new, will you rmemeber? Can you provide help in a diabetic emergency? Choking emergency? Someone having a seizure? Or anaphylactic emergency? What about cardiac emergency? If these occurred right now, in front of you, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Do you remember the cardiac chain of survival?

EAP When I come back, we will design an emergency action plan. If you read and did the stuff on Wednesday, you can easily prepare one. It is not difficult. It is a matter of time, to make sure all you “ducks are in a row.”

DO YOU? Seriously, do you want someone treating you or caring for your friend or loved one, that just flew through a lesson, did not think aout what they wrote, or just did not care. Come on, give it a good faith effort try! See ya Monday!
