Retirement and Separated Service Member Eligibility – A service member must actually travel to the location to be eligible for travel and transportation allowance when any of the following occur: Discharge, resignation, or separation under honorable conditions Transfer to Fleet Reserve Retirement Temporary disability retirement Discharge or separation from military under condition other than honorable * A Service member is authorized travel from the last PDS (permanent duty station) to his or her HOR (home of record) or PLEAD (place of enlistment of active duty.

Service Member Discharged from the Service under Other than Honorable Conditions Allowances – Service member may be authorized the least expensive transportation by airplane, train, or bus at government expense, but not per diem. Scenario: SM last PDS is San Diego, CA and HOR is Norfolk, VA. Based on the statement above, which mode of transportation the SM will be provided at government expense? Airplane - $600 Train - $300 Bus - $150 None of the above

Type of allowances Transportation allowance – different mode of transportation Provide government transportation (Flight procured ticket) Personally purchased transportation (Flight procured ticket) Privately owned vehicle (POV) MALT – Monetary allowance in lieu of transportation ($0.20/per mile) Flat Per Diem allowance – daily rate meant to cover living expenses (Food and lodging) - $149/per day

Time Limitations Reimbursement A service member and his or her dependent must begin travel to HOR (home of record) or PLEAD (place of enlistment of active duty) before 181st day following separation from service or release from active duty and 1 year for retirement. Reimbursement A service member and his or her dependent must submit a travel claim using DD Form 1351-2 (Travel voucher) in order to get reimbursed for transportation and allowance to servicing PSD (Personnel Support Detachment) once the travel is completed.

Service Members Civil Relief Act (SCRA) This is the law that governs legal protections for member of the United States Military SCRA begins on the first day of active duty Some protections under the act extend for a limited time beyond active duty discharge or release but are tied to the discharge/release date

Termination of Residential Leases The SCRA allows individuals to break a lease when they go onto active duty if the lease was entered into before going onto active duty To break the lease under this provisions, the Service member must make the request in writing and must include a copy of their orders The earliest termination date is 30 days after the first date on which the next payment is due

Scenario: Chief Johnson pays his rent on the first day of every month, and he notifies his landlord on the 18th of June that he wanted to terminate the lease under the provisions of the SCRA. When is the earliest he can terminate the lease? August 1 July 1 July 31 Aug 31
