Design Projectile – marble Plastic pieces that don’t really fit together, held with duct tape and hot glue Some pieces bought at Wal-Mart for ~$8, other pieces found, duct tape and hot glue estimated cost ~$5 Works in around 14.5 seconds Lots of spirals and drops
Energy Gravitational potential energy at the top, all converted to kinetic energy at the bottom Mgh = 1/2mv^2 Negligible energy loss due to friction
Construction/Design Issues Getting the time to be ~15 seconds was an issue: we had to change the height repeatedly Hot glue is not very strong Deciding what we were going to build took the most time
Conclusions Adjusting heights increases/decreases energy from gravitational potential energy to kinetic energy, affecting time it took to go down the coaster Getting together and deciding what to do is hard Overall, making the coaster cost effective and simple was the goal It runs in ~14.5 seconds
