New Laws England passed a new law. It created the Proclamation Line of 1763

The law kept the colonists from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains. After all, we fought for the land didn’t we? There’s some great farming land there!

This is when trouble began between the colonies and England

Taxes To make matters worse, the King of England decided to tax the colonists to pay for the war We went to war to protect our colonies, why shouldn’t they pay?

New Taxes Sugar and molasses An added stamp to anything printed Tea

Anger about the taxes brought the colonies together

They began to protest

the Boston tea party 1773 Colonists dressed as Indians throw tea  into the water to protest the tax on tea.

Quartering Act 1774 when there was no place for British soldiers to stay, the town or city had to provide living quarters for the soldiers

1775 It is not long before fighting breaks out between the New England colonists and British troops

April,1775

1776 It takes over a year for the colonies to unite against the British On July 4, 1776 the united colonies declare independence from the King of England.
