Death of a Salesman – Act 1 Learning Intention Success Criteria We are learning to pick out elements from short sections of the text to discuss with relation to the characters, relationships and themes of the play. Pick out relevant quotations Discuss them in relation to the themes Discuss them in their social/historical context. FOCUS AREA: AMERICAN DREAM AND WILLY’S CHARACTER, WILLY AND LINDA’S RELATIONSHIP

Starter Reminder: what is the American Dream?

Reading Beginning  ‘swiss cheese’ Write out quotations to do with dreams/ambition. Who says them? Link these quotations to the American Dream.

Linda and Willy - Relationship Write down 5 quotations from the text that give clues to what their relationship is like.

Plenary What qualities do you need to be a good salesman? Do these relate to Willy?
