Can we explore it? Reception Autumn Term 2 2018 Literacy: During this half term we will continue learning the Phase 2 & 3 initial sounds (u, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss, j, v, w, x, z, zz, y) as well as revising the sounds we learnt during our first half term Through the use of name cards we will practise cursive letter formations and pencil grips (Nip, Flip & Grip) while encouraging children to independently write their name. (See Google Drive for resources) The books we will focus on are: We’re Going On A Bear Hunt Whatever next Come to tea on planet Zum Zee The Christmas story A range of non-fiction texts will also supplement the children’s learning throughout the topic The children will be given an exciting range of writing opportunities across all areas of learning such as role-play, investigation and the ‘small world’ table. Personal, social and emotional development: Through the activities available children will be able to demonstrate: Explaining their own feelings, knowledge and understanding and ask appropriate questions. To describe and explain Initiating conversations, attending to and taking account of what others say Talking to other children when playing and communicate freely about own home and community Communication and language: Listening and attention: Following instructions Joining in with key events and phrases during stories “We’re Going On A Bear Hunt” “Come to Tea on Planet Zum Zee”. Listening to others one to one or in small groups and focusing attention on what others are saying. Understanding: Understanding prepositions (on top/behind/in front/next to, underneath) Following a story without pictures and prompts Understanding and answering ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions Responding to ideas expressed by others (Where would you like to explore?) Speaking: Using language to recreate roles and experiences during play (small world, role play) Using talk to describe, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events. Can we explore it? Mathematics: We will be learning to: Say 1 more and 1 less than a number to 5 Add, subtract and problem solve using numbers to 5 Understand positional language; behind, in front, next to, under, on top Recognise, select and describe 2D shapes. Compare and order different sized objects using key vocabulary; big, small, smaller smallest, bigger, biggest Expressive art and design: Through a large variety of creative activities including music, art, small world and role play the children will develop and practice the following skills: Create simple representations of events, people and objects Respond to music with movements to express feelings, ideas and experiences The children will continue their exciting music lessons with Mrs Roberts and have the opportunity to use instruments The children will learn songs and actions for our Reception Nativity performances (Copy on Google Drive) Reception Autumn Term 2 2018 Understanding of the World: Through a variety of learning opportunities the children will be able to demonstrate the following skills: To show they enjoy joining in with family customs and routines through - preparation for Christmas. Recognising and describing special times or events for family or friends – fireworks, remembrance day, Christmas Completing a simple program on a computer – Through the use of iPads, bee-bots and computers. That they are developing an understanding of growth, decay and changes over time – investigating change of state (ice, snow) and discussing different environmental changes e.g seasons. We will be exploring different environments and places. Where will we go? What will we find? Who will we meet? Beginning of our Topic: We will be going on a bear hunt in the Ecology Centre. Will we find a bear? During our topic: We will become NASA astronauts, investigating space. We will also be busy writing our letters to Santa and taking a pretend ride on the Polar Express to the North Pole! RE: Welcome: Throughout this topic the children will learn what it is to welcome and to be welcomed. They will also be taught that Baptism is being welcomed into the church. Birthday: During this topic the children will learn about Birthdays. We will think about how and why we celebrate them and how it feels to wait for them. They will also learn about Advent and the Christmas story.
