Generations Together Project 2006-2007

Project Background a whole-school e-learning Citizenship project to raise pupils’ awareness of how all ages can work together and learn from one another each term … a free 8-week basic IT course for the over 55s and Mums/Women Returning to Work (6 courses in total) members of the wider community and not just pupils are able to benefit from the school’s ICT Suite the project is both cross-community and intergenerational

What’s different? pupils from Primary 6 form the project team and act as facilitators 12 altogether, including 4 from St. Mary’s Primary and 2 from ethnic minority groups 6 weeks training in word processing, desktop publishing and the Internet basic communication and facilitating skills

Added value the ‘Generations Together’ project will provide an opportunity for people from both traditional and ethnic communities to meet together in a welcoming and non-threatening environment ‘Generations Together’ will build confidence for those who, in the past, have been hesitant to use a computer adults and young people from different backgrounds will appreciate that they can work together and learn from each other but also …

The last word … Excellent course. I gave up on two previous courses, but was very sorry when I had to miss one day of this one!” For a real beginner, I found the course easy to follow and everyone very helpful. The course was not only excellent, but very enjoyable. The children were very polite and helpful, the teacher was well organised, allowing each person to work at their own pace. I have been to several computer classes and this one has been, by far, the best. The whole thing was excellent from start to finish. Great appreciation, rather than great frustration!
