The English Bill of Rights Consider the Declaration of the Independence and the United States’ system of government. There were several powerful influences that were expressed in the document including: enlightened thinkers, the Magna Carta, and the English Bill of Rights. Explain each of their impacts on the United States of America. Magna Carta Protected from an oppressive leader through Parliament Enumerated several protections for citizens including: freedom from unlawful searches and seizures, a right to a speedy trial, a right to trial by jury, and protection from loss of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. The English Bill of Rights Strictly enforced the principles of the Magna Carta Power to of Parliament pass laws and taxes, royals ruled according to Parliamentary laws Outlawed cruel and unusual punishment Guaranteed free speech (for members of Parliament), right keep arms
