President James Madison & “Mr. Madison’s War” Trade Problems + Giving Natives guns + Warhawks = WAR First war approved by US Congress June 6, 1812 The New England States were against the war They traded with Britain Many of these states were mostly Federalists 1809 – 1817 Democratic – Republican
