Biological Assessment of Carlson Pond Mike Eastman, Tucker Brauer, and Kayla Griffin University of Idaho Limnology Fall 2014

Outline Objectives Methods Data Suggestions

Objectives Determine the zooplankton community present in Carlson Pond. Determine the zooplankton species density throughout the pond. Identify the macrophtye species and recommend potential control methods.

3 2 1

Zooplankton Three samples taken from three sites. Whole water column hauls. Samples were transported in bottles back to the lab. Zooplankton were counted under microscopes and identified to family group.

Macrophytes Coontail was prominent during the summer months. Rootless, submerged, perennial plant. Reproduces through seeds and fragmentation. Easily managed macrophyte species.

Results

Zooplankton within Carlson Pond Cladocera Copepoda

Recommendations for Carlson Pond Macrophyte Management

Zooplankton compatibility

Summary High zooplankton densities found within Carlson Pond. Macrophytes should be managed, but not removed. Zooplankton and macrophytes contribute to fish health.
