Coal generation is gradually being replaced by other sources. Summary The natural gas market appears to be well supplied for the near future. The markets do not appear to be pricing in restrictive environmental legislation. Renewable energy is still only a fraction of the total energy consumed within the U.S. Natural gas is the fuel cost on the margin when considering the wholesale cost of power. Coal generation is gradually being replaced by other sources. Energy efficiency programs will continue to slow the growth of energy consumption over time.
