S- STANDARDS Great as basic guidelines/ structure for teachers. Standards should not dictate curriculum. The curriculum should be results-driven, not content driven by standards. Should not be restraints on teachers.

T = Technology Resources enhance curriculum. Provides unlimited sources. Provides connections to “real world.” Helps expand previous knowledge. Demonstrates Piaget’s theories

A = Application Applying classroom material to real-life situations. Collaborative curriculum Finding commonalities in classroom material and student’s lives Applying the material to the world Goal: to build well rounded, informed students.

N = Nourish the whole child Children should be taught in a wide variety of subjects to become a well-rounded individual Take advantage of child’s strengths. Should also be encouraged to explore many areas and build up weaker areas. Dewey was a proponent of nourishing the whole child.

D = Developmental Theory Jean Piaget Scheme building Assimilation Accommodation John Dewey Progressive education Students need actual experiences in many areas in order to learn Active learning Maria Montessori Exposing children to real-life situations Environment

“If you STAND for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.”
