Do Now: 2/25/16 Take out the Law of Conservation of Matter lab Take out your “Measuring Matter” HW Watch Tim and Moby explain the Law of Conservation of Matter and fill out the worksheet

Measuring Matter HW

Definitions: Mass: the amount of matter in the object Weight: the measurement of the effect of gravity on the mass of the object

The amount of matter in the object will not change no matter where you are (under water, space, on a mountain) BUT The weight of an object WILL change depending upon the amount of gravity there is at a particular place. For example: How much do you think you weigh on the different planets?? Will there be a difference? Will you weigh the same on Jupiter as you do on Pluto?

Answer the questions in the space provided:   1) Find the volume of the candy bar if its length is 25cm, height is 2cm and width is 2cm. Since cm3 and mL are the same units for volume, I can cross them out and compare the numbers. Since 1000 is larger than 250, the feathers have the higher volume.

The universe was formed during the BIG BANG 13.7 years ago, so the molecules inside of your body have been “recycled” through chemical reactions ever since then!
