Our Area

Did you know? The High Street and Peascod Street mark the crossing route of two ancient roads, going back at least to Saxon times Like many Mediaeval towns, Windsor was planned from the outset, with most of our main streets set down by 1300 In the 16th century, Windsor was a popular destination for religious pilgrims. This established its orientation towards tourism The greatest spur to Windsor’s development was the arrival of the railways in 1851.

Plan Progress Founding the Forum Publicising the Forum and seeking members Building the evidence base Vision Day – themes for this plan first introduced, with positive feedback Primary research: survey, website feedback  Secondary and tertiary research  Pre-consultation – at our last meeting we were here First draft consultation – we’re now here Second consultation Inspection (not all steps shown) Referendum

Key Concerns & Issues Heritage Environment Retail Business Access & Parking

Our Objectives Conserving and Enhancing Our Historic Environment Supporting a Five Star Windsor Economic Growth

Please have a look at the policies in the document printed out It’s important to note that this is a draft document All these polices are based on evidence, as they have to be, including feedback on our Vision Day, from residents and other users of the town centre and from our last meeting. As our evidence develops so will our policies We’re open to feedback!

Thank you Remember: this draft plan is presented not as finished work but for discussion  Should Forum members agree, this will be further tidied by the steering group and then go online for formal consultation Your comments, suggestions or other feedback are welcome If you want to volunteer to get more involved please get in touch, via our website www.windsor2030.org or follow our Facebook page, Windsor 2030 Please ask your friends and colleagues to get involved

What is a Five Star Windsor? A world class visitor destination alongside a competitive, attractive and sustainable town centre – a great place to live, work, visit and enjoy. For our full Five Star Windsor vision please see the draft policy document

Plan history This plan shows Windsor in 1845. There were slums by the castle wall and buildings on the Long Walk. A good plan doesn’t just enable change, it improves conservation. In this case, it protected Windsor from the uncontrolled development that befell so many other towns west of London Many of Windsor’s most cherished buildings, streets, stations and views didn’t happen by accident but were a result of this plan
