Geographic and Historical Notes Warren County is located in West Central Indiana and is bordered by the State of Illinois and the following Indiana counties: Benton to the north, Tippecanoe to the east, Fountain to the south/southeast, and Vermillion to the south/southwest. U.S. Highway 41 and State Highways 63 and 26 cross the county. Elevation is 600 to 750 feet. There are at least three types of landscapes: nearly level on the northwestern border and in the west, slightly sloping in the southeast, and steeper slopes northeast and south. The landscape features hickory and oak trees. Parts of the county pertain to two different land resource areas: the Northern Illinois and Indiana Heavy Till Plain (north and west) and the Indiana and Ohio Till Plain (south and east). Warren county is in the Eastern Time Zone and observes DST. Average daily temperatures are 14٥/32٥ in January and 62٥/85٥ in July. Annual precipitation is about 36 and snowfall about 25 inches. The first freeze is between October 10-15, and the last freeze between April 25-30. The growing season lasts 158-168 days. Agricultural activity is mainly in corn for grain, soybeans, and livestock. Hay and winter wheat are additional crops. Livestock include cattle/calves and hogs/pigs. Sweet corn is an important vegetable. About four-fifths of the land is in farms and about four-fifths of that land is in cash crops. Important natural resources include construction sand and gravel, and forestland. Water resources include Kates Lake, the Wabash River, and several streams (Big Mud Pine, Pine, Little Pine, Redwood, Spring, and Jordan Creeks). Communities include the town of Williamsport, (the county seat), and Pine Village, and State Line City, and West Lebanon.
