Places in Africa and South America

Hi everyone, Gilly here. These pictures have been taken of some significant features of places in Africa. 1. Examine each of the pictures to determine what types of features are shown – human and natural characteristics. (An example has been done for you on Slide 3.) 2. Use an atlas to locate these features. 3. Mark and name their location on the map of Africa, using a suitable symbol to represent each of them. Don’t forget to create a legend!

Africa: Nile River - Example Remember: Many places have both human and natural characteristics. Human-made features along the Nile River shown in this image include a pyramid and cultivated fields. Natural features shown in this image include the river itself and date palm trees.

This next set of pictures show some significant features of places in South America. 1. Examine each of the pictures to determine what types of features are shown – human and natural characteristics. (See Slide 10 for another example.) 2. Use an atlas to locate these features. 3. Mark and name their location on the map of South America, using a suitable symbol to represent each of them. Don’t forget to create a legend!

South America: Amazon River Human features are not as clear. They include cleared land, scattered buildings and roads. Natural features include the river and large areas of rainforest.
