THE LORD’S SUPPER
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 CSB
The Background: Passover
The new meaning of the elements
As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take and eat it; this is my body.” Matthew 26:26 CSB
Just as the bread was broken, Jesus’ body would be broken.
Just as the bread was without yeast, Jesus was without sin.
Just as the bread comes into our physical bodies, Jesus is united with us spiritually.
Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:27–28 CSB
But I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Matthew 26:29 CSB
Why does this matter?
God wants to be with us.
