What was the Middle Ages? n Europe, the Middle Ages (or Medieval Period) lasted from the 5th to the 15th century. It began with the fall of the Western Roman Empire and merged into the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery. The Middle Ages is the middle period of the three traditional divisions of Western history: classical antiquity, the medieval period, and the modern period. The medieval period is itself subdivided into the Early, High, and Late Middle Ages. The middle ages also included the viking age in northern Europe.

Viking Ship Where: Norway When: 9th Century The Viking ship was perhaps the greatest technical and artistic achievement of the European dark ages. These fast ships had the strength to survive ocean crossings while having a draft of as little as 50 cm (20 inches), allowing navigation in very shallow water. The artistic qualities in the painting are lines, swirls and curves. Which makes it noticeable to be a viking shape to people and villagers of northern Europe
