Assessments and Reports What is assessment? What types of assessments are carried out at Drayton Manor High School? How are students given feedback? What do the Reports include? What can parents do to help?

What is assessment? Activities to identify what students know, understand and are able to do It is used to track progress of students from one point of their learning journey to another Supports teachers to evaluate learning and the impact of their own teaching students to understand how well they have learned what has been taught parents to stay informed about the achievement, progress and wider outcomes of their child plan and modify teaching and learning programmes for individual students, groups of students, and the class as a whole pinpoint students’ strengths so that both teachers and students can build on them identify students’ learning needs in a clear and constructive way so they can be addressed day-to-day activities, such as learning conversations a simple mental note taken by the teacher during observation student self and peer assessments a detailed analysis of a student’s work assessment tools, which may be written items, structured interview questions, or items teachers make up themselves.

What can parents do to help? Ask your son/daughter about what he/she is learning and use the Green Feedback Sheets in his/her exercise books to guide your discussion Ask questions about your son/daughter’s homework. You can view what has been set on Show My Homework Encourage your son/daughter to use online learning tools such as Sam Learning to improve his/her learning and to support revision for tests and examinations Encourage your son/daughter to read a wide range of texts including news articles, magazines, reference books and novels
