Stop and Think The QEP at LFCC: What you need to know
What are you doing today? Watching a football game? Studying? What are you doing today? Playing a video game? Buying gas? Working?
How about thinking?
Maybe you haven’t scheduled any thinking for today, but you should. Thinking is why you’re here. It’s what LFCC is all about.
No matter what your job or study plans are, the most important thing an LFCC education can give you is the ability to think… Not to memorize or repeat knowledge, although those things are important too.
No matter how much knowledge you have stored up, if you can’t do anything with that knowledge, it’s not going to help you.
You’ve got to think
Thinking means… Explaining, analyzing, and synthesizing what we see, hear, and read Using creativity to discover multiple solutions and diverse approaches to issues Seeing connections and patterns Evaluating claims and evidence to draw reasonable conclusions Finding relevant information to address tasks and problems Reflecting on how we think and learn. In fact, professionals have a name for this kind of careful thinking: Critical Thinking
We believe critical thinking is more than just important… It’s absolutely, well, critical to your success.
We believe this so strongly that we have chosen critical thinking for our QEP. A QEP is a Quality Enhancement Plan -- a five-year plan that will help us all to become better thinkers.
The QEP is required for LFCC to maintain its accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. But it’s not just a requirement. It’s our commitment to you. When you leave LFCC, you will be a better, more critical thinker.
