Tank base Tank Height Tank Volume [ model requirements] Support legs or pedestal must fit in a 1 ft wide x 1 ft deep space Tank Height 1.5 ft minimum (from base to tank bottom) 2.5 maximum (from base to tank top) <Let the students know that they will receive an information packet with all of these requirements listed. Get them thinking by going over the requirements and asking them why there are limitations on size/height/volume of a water tower.> Tank Base: Support Legs or Pedestal must fit in a 1 ft wide x 1 ft deep space Tank Height: 1.5 ft minimum ( from base to tank bottom) 2.5 ft maximum (from base to tank top) Tank Volume: 1.0 gallon minimum 2.5 gallon maximum Tank Volume 1.0 gallon minimum 2.5 gallon maximum

[ hydraulic test ] Here is a typical setup for the hydraulic test. At the Dimensions station, the tower will be tested to ensure that it holds the designated volume of water. At the hydraulic station, the time it takes to fill and drain the tank is measured by pumping a gallon of water into the tower and draining it back out. <If you have a model tower to show them, this is a good time to do the demonstration>

Design Ingenuity & Interview Presentation Structural Efficiency [ judging categories ] Design Ingenuity & Interview Presentation Imagination & Skill 5-minute Presentation & Interview Hydraulic Efficiency Structural Efficiency time to fill & drain elevated tank with 1 gallon of water There are four judging categories in the competition: Design Ingenuity and Presentation which accounts for the creativity and thought put into the tower design, as well as the quality of the presentation to the judges Structural Efficiency = structure weight/(volume x height) Hydraulic Efficiency = time to fill & drain elevated tank with 1 gallon of water Cost Efficiency = cost/(volume x height) structure weight/ (volume x height)

Grand Prize Winners All Entrants [ awards ] 1st Place Tower $300 2nd Place Tower $200 <Customize this slide with the awards and incentives for your competition – explain to the students what they could win, and what they will receive for participating.> 3rd Place Tower $100 All Entrants T-shirt Certificate of Participation
