Phil 1:27 - Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, And what is our calling? Whatever, this is our vocation. 2 Tim 1:9 - who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, And to this we were called – aorist active indicative A more general calling, to any vocation. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. Eph 4:2 - “with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,” lowliness – what, that’s not what the world is telling me? Having a humble opinion of one's self, a deep sense of one's (moral) littleness, modesty, humility, lowliness of mind. So do we beat ourselves up? Rom 7:24 - O wretched man that I am! Christ Himself Matt 11:29 - Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. And a reminder for us 1 Cor 4:7 - For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? Doesn’t this section remind you of the fruit of the Spirit? Gal 5:22 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness (meekness) – only in Christ! 2 Cor 10:1 - Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. Trench – ‘It is an inwrought grace of the soul, and the exercises of it are first and chiefly toward God. McCalley – ‘both difficult and implies determination’ the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. unanimity means agreement Found only twice in NT, both in Ephesians (Eph 4:13). What are implications here, what peace? Col 2:18,19 - Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not[fn] seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.
