Grad Parent Info Night 2019

Important Dates: PSI Transcript Ordering   February 28/March 1 Early Application Deadline for most University and College admissions and major entrance scholarships March 5 NIC Advisor March 6 NIC – Questions and answers around Dual Admission March 12 Vanier Bursary Applications due in the Counseling Office – 12:00 (noon) March 15 At-risk and non-grad letters will be issued April 2 NIC Advisor April 10 Grad Transition Workshops May 7 NIC Advisor June 5 Bursary Tea, 6 pm June 24-26 Provincial Exams PSI Transcript Ordering

Scholarship Terms Bursary: Are awarded primarily based on financial need, but academic achievement is also considered. Usually, the applicant must provide detailed documentation describing their financial situation when applying for a bursary. Scholarship: A sum of money awarded to a student to help finance further education. Most scholarships are based on merit in areas ranging from academic achievement to athletics or community service. Entrance Award/Scholarship: A scholarship or award given to a student entering his/her first year at a post-secondary institution. Check individual institution criteria and application procedures.

Scholarship Factors Year of Study (entrance) Special Circumstances (brain injury, orphan, parent, learning disability, etc.) Financial Need (pertains to your income) Academic Average (usually your last year of study marks) Heritage (Aboriginal, etc.) Field of Study (the program you’re interested in) Affiliation (companies, religious groups, unions, and associations, that you or your family are affiliated with) Activities (sports, religion, academic, leadership, community involvement, etc.) Location (where you live and go to school)

GROUP 1 Complete ONE group application form and on the back check off the bursaries that you are applying for Recipients are chosen by the Vanier Bursary Committee GROUP 2 Complete a separate application form for each bursary (complete one and PHOTOCOPY before checking off specific bursary) Recipients are chosen by the donating group Some require special application forms as noted in the booklet GROUP 3 As per Group 2, however application is completely submitted online to the donating group. All GROUPS require the following: Letter of introduction Two letters of reference Resume Current transcript
