My Personal Best A Life Skills Approach to Teaching PE in Primary Schools Julie Gompertz

By the end of the session you should be able to .. identify the importance of developing pupils’ life skills in Primary schools explore what life skills look like through PE and across the school

WHY is the development of Life skills important ? to support children to flourish in PE, school and life to improve health, wellbeing and personal skills ( healthy skills) to gain a better understanding in how to work with others (social skills) to be able to create opportunities, overcome challenges and make choices (thinking skills) to increase potential achievement and readiness for life.

Overview of My PB Full Day workshop : Part 1 Explain the importance of developing pupils’ life skills. Recognise what ‘life-skilled’ looks like in your pupils. Identify the potential to develop life skills through PE. Describe how My PB could be embedded in your school. Part 2 Demonstrate a life skills approach to teaching & learning in PE. Plan how to implement a life skills approach in your teaching of PE. Resources and training The one-day training consists of: Part one (approx. three hours) is for the headteachers and PE leaders from each school. It will enable you to: • explain the importance of developing pupils’ life skills • recognise what ‘life-skilled’ looks like in your pupils • identify the potential to develop life skills through PE • describe how My Personal Best Primary could be embedded in your school. Part two is for the PE leaders. It will enable you to: • demonstrate a life skills approach to teaching and learning in PE • plan how to implement a life skill approach in your teaching of PE.
