Investigating the Success of the First Year of a PDS Implementation Debra Patterson, Kinesiology Sandy Ritter , Special Education Cathy Nachum, Site Director Middle School Natalie Messinger, Site Director Elementary School

Setting Goals for Year Two Where are we after our first pilot year of implementing a PDS model at three clinical sites? Elementary Middle School High School Successes Overall Progress Areas for Improvement Setting Goals for Year Two

Evaluation of Year One Gather evidence in a variety of formats Development and refinement of assessment tools Need to “process” year one for setting year two goals Inside evaluators: SRI

Assessment Measures NCATE PDS Standards Site Administrators Student Teacher Mentor Teachers 1st Cohort Group during their first year teaching Tracking system to correlate student teaching with pupil learning

NCATE PDS Standards Needed to see where the sites where after year one and set goals for year two Standards used in matrix format Each Site Leadership completed their own matrix Rated their site in terms of partnership implementation Provided qualitative evidence Comparison of all three sites (evidence of change)

NCATE PDS Standards, continued Site Directors responsible for assembling the evidence for their matrix Discussion of process at each site Sites set goals for year two partnership implementation

Site Administrators Semi-structured interview with one administrator from each site Included questions on: TNE Goals established prior to implementation year Unique opportunities for cohort of student teachers Site logistics and developing committees School district support Pilot tool: need to collect more rich data

Student Teachers Questionnaires Journal Development Quantitative analysis and results Qualitative analysis and results Journal Completed at conclusion of every week Reflect on “learning about yourself as an educator” Data collected on both cohort and non-cohort groups

Mentor Teachers Questionnaires Refinement of the process About their first year experiences with the PDS partnership Development Gathering evidence Site Team responses Mentor Teacher responses Refinement of the process

Future Directions Continue refinement of assessment tools used to gather ‘hard’ evidence of PDS model and set goals Continue to look at areas of improvement needed to sustain PDS model at all sites Currently collecting specific information and tracking pupil achievement and learning with cohort of student teachers
