Goals For ESY IEP-ESY Statement suggests one or two goals that students should work on for ESY. Determine students goals: How to collect the data? What to focus on during ESY?
Goals for ESY If many learners have reading goals, then this will be a focus. If many learners are working on stable relationships or impulse control, then social skills may be the focus.
Physical Classroom Territory! Determine if the classroom is going to have more students that are transitioning or maintaining. Will the day be similar to regular school year, will anything change? Space-Designate community/individual Consider student combinations, seating arrangement Paraprofessional placement, where should they be positioned? Specific behaviors- need intentional placement Running out of the classroom In other student’s business
Visual Classroom Clear Expectations for students posted Visual of the routines for students posted Literacy collaborative, supporting the same expectations Will the day be similar to regular school year, will anything change?
Draw a map of classroom Change parts that you would like to see altered Design your ideal with the space given
Turn and Talk Talk to your neighbor about how your classroom is set up Discuss at least 3 intentions for the classroom set up.
Expectations What are your expectations and structures? why? Decide what is the priority. How are you going to teach these expectations? How will these expectations help the students transition? Prepare students for changes in the fall
Paraprofessional Communication Many paraprofessionals will be from different programs working ESY. Inform paraprofessionals about behaviors that you are collecting data on. Give paraprofessionals explicit instructions about how to help in the classroom. Safety concerns Have paraprofessionals help lead the expectations for students for a common understanding.
Turn and Talk Discuss expectations for the classroom with neighbor What have you used in the past? What would you like to change? How will you communicate to paraprofessionals?
Good Luck!
