"To Build a Fire" By Jack London

WRITING PROMPT Write an essay analyzing Jack London's use of imagery in "To Build a Fire." How do the different types of imagery foreshadow the protagonist's demise? Cite two different examples from the text. Your essay should be typed, double-spaced, and in MLA format. Your essay should follow the structure provided.  - introduction paragraph - body paragraph #1 - body paragraph #2 - conclusion paragraph

Introduction (4 sentences minimum) Hook – interests the reader (1 sentence) Bridge – provides context & explains the topic (2 sentences)  Thesis statement – answers the prompt (1 sentence)

Body Paragraph (7 sentences minimum EACH) Topic sentence – the type of imagery used Explain topic Introduce evidence – context within the story Insert evidence – quote from the text Unpack evidence – what it means Explain evidence – why it matters & how it foreshadows the protagonist's death Concluding statement

Conclusion (3 sentences minimum) Reword the thesis statement – answers the prompt (1 sentence) Bridge – reminds the reader of the evidence provided (1 sentence)  Closing thought – leaves the reader interested (1 sentence)
