Critical Reading Practice Using PEEL

What does the A of RUAE stand for? What is this? – the storm lashed at the shore like an angry giant. Name 2 different techniques you could be asked about in an imagery question? Name 2 things you could be asked about in a sentence structure question? What is important you ensure you do when bullet pointing a summary question? What do you do when answering a link question? Learning Intentions By the end of this lesson you will: Have used PEEL to construct your own critical essay paragraphs. Understood how to link your paragraph to the question asked.

PRINTS Purpose – critical writing practise Resources – A3 sheets/pens/paper/poem In/Out – working in groups Noise – quiet group discussion Time – 20 minutes Success – completed paragraph to share.

PEEL Point Evidence (Quote) Explain Link to Question.

The task – 20 minutes to complete. Working in three groups you will be assigned a quote from the poem. It is written in the centre of your sheet. Then take each part of PEEL and write it around the quote. (see board) Once completed you will all writ up your PEEL paragraph. These will then be shared around each group.

Learning Review By the end of this lesson you will: Have constructed your own PEEL paragraphs. Understood how to link that back to the question being asked.
