Presentation transcript:

Mind Stretcher 11-13-17 Write one sentence that uses the following 3 key terms: Prokaryote, nucleus and eukaryote EX: Eukarotic cells have DNA contained in a nucleus, while prokaryotic cells have DNA that floats freely in the cell.

Directions 11-13-17 Silently read “Facts about Cells.” You may write on the sheet. You will keep the reading passage and turn in the questions/scantron sheet to me when finished. Suggestion: Underline/highlight the answer to each question in the passage!

These Cell Books will STAY in CLASS!! Cell Booklet Setup These Cell Books will STAY in CLASS!! On the inside of the first page, WRITE animal cell as the title. On Page 2, above the rectangular plant cell, WRITE plant cell as the title. Write your first and last name on the FRONT COVER of the booklet and give it a title! On the next page (top left side of p. 3), label the organelle: Cell Membrane Label the bottom organelle on p. 3: Cytoplasm

Organelle- Cell Membrane Function- To protect the cell and allow things IN and OUT. Analogy- The cell membrane is like a fence because a cell membrane lets things in and out of a cell just like a fence lets things in and out of a yard. Found- Animal & Plant Cells

Cytoplasm Organelle- Cytoplasm Function- Gel-like fluid found all throughout the cell; All other organelles are suspended (floating) in it. Analogy- The Cytoplasm is like Jell-O, constantly moving & swishing around holding fruit (or organelles) in place Found- Plant & Animal Cells

The Nucleus Function- DNA (our genes) is in the nucleus. It directs the cell’s activities. The nucleolus is housed here. (Tells all the other parts what to do! ) Analogy- The nucleus is like a Brain Found- Animal & Plant Cells
