OUTLINE Definition Post Award Activity Process Payroll Effort Certification

What is Effort Certification? Reporting of effort on a sponsored project. For universities, effort on externally sponsored projects is reported based on a percent of time expended in overall effort (up to 100%) compared to other activities (e.g., teaching, service, research on other grants or contracts, consulting, for the institution, etc.). Effort is not reported based on a forty-hour week or hours per week.

Post Award Activity Process There should be one Administrative contact person Coordinate and arrange a Kick-off Meeting Review role and responsibilities of team members Review budget and contractual obligations Determine WHEN to begin labor distribution and WHOSE labor distribution will be affected. Regardless sponsor budget or cost share budget

Step 1: Step 2: Enter in the “Parameter Values” Go down to next block 01 – the year 02 – Pay Period (MN or BW) 03 – Payroll number 04 – enter TKL 05 – your TKL (ex: HR395) Step 2: Go down to next block “Submission” click the “Save Parameter Set as” box Then click the SAVE box in bottom right corner

After you click the save button, this should show that the report has been sent in email

Open report then you can sort and save. Report will not open later if email saved.

Effort Certifications Effort Certifications are quarterly Review efforts with the PI If any changes the PI will need to enter % amount, then certify Check to see if approvers are listed under Routing Rules If not contact your organizational Computing liaison (found on the Master Contact list)
