Self-Advocacy Self-Advocacy is the ability to speak-up for yourself and the things that are important to you.

Importance Of Self Advocacy It helps you decide what you want and what is possible for you to expect. Decisions for PwIDDs in India are made for them and they are not given the chance to speak-up about the things that are important to them PwIDDs unaware about:- their right to speak–up. the correct way to speak-up. the correct person to speak to about their difficulties. The kind of help that they can avail.

Areas where ‘Self-Advocacy’ can be applied? At home At work At school At the hospital In the market In the bus/public transport And many more places

How do you Self-Advocate? Decide:- What you want to speak-up about Plan:- How to speak-up Decision Making:- Authority to make minor/major decisions in life Confidence:- trust in one’s abilities, qualities and judgment

Who is a Self-Advocate? Who Says what they think speak-up on things they believe in know and understands their rights and responsibilities take own responsibility makes decisions help to improve their life tries to change the way things are done

What Self-Advocacy IS NOT? It is NOT just self help! It is NOT just self esteem! It is NOT just self concept! It is NOT just self image! It is NOT just self determination! Self-Advocacy is ALL and MUCH MORE
