AIRCRAFT CARRIERS By: Bailee Seagraves

Aircraft Carriers were first developed in the 1920s, but there was a great transformation in aircraft carrier tactics beginning in August, 1942. An aircraft carrier is a ship whose primary purpose is to bring airplanes closer to distant battle areas.

WWII broke out in 1939 when the United States entered the war in December 1941, both United States and Japan had little idea how the war would be fought.

By 1941, US Navy carriers were seriously threatened only by the Kamikazes, Japanese suicide attacks.
