Presentation transcript:

Bellringer: Jan. 22/26 You don’t need to write the questions - When evaluating information to use in an assignment, why is it important to evaluate all of the following: the MESSAGE, the AUTHOR, and the PURPOSE? You are SUBMITTING THIS BELLRINGER in FIVE MINUTES. Today’s agenda: Turn in the College Issue assignment if you haven’t done so already. After today, it is late. Take the 10th grade PERFORMANCE TASK. This assignment is the independent task associated with what we just did. If you finish early, you MUST read QUIETLY at your desk. We can go to a GREEN ZONE, but only if it is not a distraction FOR ME.

What is a Performance TASK? “Performance tasks build on earlier content knowledge, process skills, and work habits and are strategically placed in the lesson or unit to enhance learning as the student ‘pulls it all together.’” – from ASCD Reflect a real-world task and/or scenario-based problem – SmarterBalanced Require student-initiated planning, management of information and ideas, interaction with other materials – SmarterBalanced Measure capacities such as depth of understanding, research skills, complex analysis, and identification/providing of relevant evidence - SmarterBalanced

What you are doing today is to help introduce you to what a performance task assessment would look like. In 11th grade, your performance task will probably be on the computer, require multiple steps which are assessed, and will take one or more class sessions to create. Our task will just be for today. No, you don’t get more time. Finish it today.

Ticket out What were the challenges you faced with today’s task? How did you plan your organization?
