Cross Country What is Cross Country? Scoring Runs on different terrains such as grass, gravel, pavement etc Races are 1 mile or 2 mile Mixture of Endurance and Speed together We are part of IESA (Illinois Elementary School Association) Scoring Lowest team score wins A team consists of 7 runners and top 5 from the team scores unless there is a tie then the 6th runner breaks the tie. All our runners are important and as far as you show up to practice you will have the opportunity to run many races.

Important Forms/Fees Sport Fee – Pay to Play $75 due before first meet (August 16) Physical Form – Due before practice Concussion Form – Turn in ASAP Waiver Form- Turn in ASAP

Practices Practice Time Saturday Practice Come Prepared Attendance 3:10pm-4:45pm Report to gym before 3:10 (PUSH-UPS AFTER) PLEASE PICKUP AT 4:45!! Saturday Practice ADVANCE group Come Prepared Proper gear (Shoes, clothes etc) WATER Attendance Go to appropriate coaches for attendance 7th/8th Grade – Coach Adeoti 5th/6th Grade – Coach Stewart

Meet Day Routine Away Meets Home Meets Students are called down to the cafeteria(most times before end of the day) Wear uniform to school to save time Grab all cross country equipment Load the bus and roll call will be taken On our way back to school, we will inform students of estimated time of arrival for RIDES TO BE AT SCHOOL! Home Meets Change right after bell rings and meet in the gymnasium for attendance Grab XC equipment and meet by 3:30pm We will try our best to SEND REMIND 101 to all parents that are signed up. NO leaving until the end of the meet!!!

3 Rules BE RESPECTFUL ATTENDANCE GIVE 100% EFFORT Never Run Alone!! To your coaches To your teammates To your teachers To your parents ATTENDANCE 1-2 unexcused absences will result in missing meets 3rd unexcused absent will result in DISMISSAL FROM THE TEAM Doctor notes must be brought in for excused medical absences. GIVE 100% EFFORT Always try your best Make others around you better Never Run Alone!!

Types of Meets Open Meet Invitational Meets Every athlete will participate in the meet All Home meets are OPEN MEETS to see your athlete perform Invitational Meets Everyone will have the opportunity to run Bigger meet with 10 or more teams Individual awards and Team awards Advance group will not be running all the meets Advance group will still attend the meet but we have a different run.

Rewards/Fun Personal Best time/distance (PB) Dress Up Day Receives PR Pins Dress Up Day Every WEDNESDAY Examples – twin day/ White out day / Rainbow Day / Grade level Day Athlete of the Week Character, workouts and meet performance(s). Best 2 performances of the week (Any mixture: 2 males, 2 females, 1 male and 1 female)

Parent Volunteer Meets Parent Cordinators Hand Timer- Time the race and finishes Recorders – Write down athletes Last name as they finish Course Spotters – Direct athletes by standing at various locations Number Distributor – Give numbers to finishers / Guide finishers in order Finish Line Assistant – Help with miscellanous Parent Cordinators BJ Cryer, Heather Lissman, Jillian Hill and Sharon Anderson Team building events/activities Feed My Starving Children - BJ Homecoming Planning - Heather End of the year banquet

Eligibility Remember you are a STUDENT FIRST! Do your work and make sure it gets turned in on time. Cross Country will never be an excuse for not completing your assignments. 1 F = ineligible for that week Monday- Sunday. You are still expected to practice with the team, but you may not participate in any meets that week. Continued ineligibility may result in dismissal from the cross country team.

Meets/Bus Rides Meets Bus When we participate in meets, either home or away, we are there as a team and leave as a team. At away meets we will NOT release you to anyone except your parents, and they must sign you out after the meet is over. No one may leave home meets until the meet is completely over and roll is taken by a coach or stats person- NO EXCEPTIONS Bus Everyone MUST ride the bus to the meet Show respect No one can leave the bus until it is clean No standing or moving around on the bus

Cross Country Accomplishments State Qualifiers 2016 1st Girls Team to qualifier in School History Emalie Mosher, Claire Roberts, Audrey Rome, Molly Roberts, Bailey Sherman, Peyton Rogers, Mercedes Bark. 1st Individual Boy to qualify in School History Steve Aguilar 2017 Girls team qualified to State, two years in a row Emalie Mosher, Audrey Rome, Molly Roberts, Sky McGuane, Erin Lissman, Joanna Rivera, Mercedes Bark. 2 Individual Boys qualified to State (Boys team barely missed) Johnny Rizzuto, Dominic Rome STATE QUALIFIER VIDEO
