1.Introduction Background Project leadership is one of key topics for research in project management fields in the last a few years. Although many papers have been published in this field, there is still a lack of research especially in mainland China.
Objectives This research has drawn on a systematic study that is helpful to build the body of knowledge regarding leadership skills of project leaders with specific reference to the Chinese context.

Interview In this stage, we have interviewed twenty participants using a set of open-ended questions with regard to project leadership as well as project organization performance including: "What are the factors that lead to a successful project team? Or what are the factors that lead to an unsuccessful project team?" "What are the basic characteristics and traits of a project manager?" "What are the leadership skills that a project leader should have in order to make the project team effective and efficient?" The participants represent different organizational levels: general manager, functional manager, project manager, assistant of project manager and project team member .
