They worked long hours in dangerous factories with minimal pay. 1906 Georgia Labor Law prohibited children under 10 from working. Children 12-14 could only work in certain conditions. 1916, a school law was passed that all children had to attend school. Prison Reform Convict Lease system abused prisoners. Convicts often died because of poor treatment. 1897, separate prisons were set up for women and men. 1908 Convict lease system abolished Juvenile courts were established in 1915. Prohibition Drinking was considered immoral. Many problems were related to drunkenness. Local counties approved local option prohibition. 1907 Georgia passed statewide prohibition. 1919, nationally. Women’s Suffrage Women were denied the right to vote. Some western states gave women the right to vote. 1920 U.S. Constitution was amended.
