Job Satisfaction Team 6 Lili To Lindsay McWilliams Dennis Koster Chris Vozella Ryan Harma Chris Bok

Definition Job Satisfaction: The degree of personal gratification one receives from one's work. Job satisfaction has been on the decline since 1995. That's a long time, according to a study by the Conference Board. Overall satisfaction approached 59 percent in 1995, but these days it's down to 49 percent.

In-Class Survey Scoring Total ratings for all 17 answers; divide by 17. Divide this new number by 4 Multiply the result by 100: 100++ “Fulfilled” top quartile nationally 92-99 “O.K.” 82-91 “Just hanging in…” Below 82 “Demoralized” lowest quartile

Factors that affect Job Satisfaction What are employees looking for in work? What aspects of the workplace make employees “satisfied” with their work? How important are certain factors to an employee’s overall assessment of job satisfaction?

Class Poll From the list gathered, if you had to pick one factor that contributed most to job satisfaction, which would it be?

Sixteen aspects of job satisfaction thought to influence perceptions of overall job satisfaction—such as: Career advancement opportunities Communication between employees and management Benefits Compensation/Pay Explored from the perspectives of both HR professionals and USATODAY.com visitors who consisted of the sample of employees for this study.

Key Findings HR professionals perceived communication between employees and management as the number one aspect that employees deemed as “very important” to their overall job satisfaction. Employees, on the other hand, viewed job security as the top aspect that was “very important” when assessing their job satisfaction.

Key Findings Cont. Female employee respondents indicated that flexibility to balance life and work issues was the top aspect for this group while males placed benefits in the top category. Employees 35 and under rated communication between employees and management as the aspect of greatest importance in contributing to overall job satisfaction. Job security was rated as the top aspect by employees in the 36-55 age range while benefits were most valued by employees 56 and above.

Key Findings Cont. A little more than three-quarters of HR professionals and employees agreed that employees were satisfied with their current jobs. This agreement diverged, however, when the percentage of “very satisfied” employees was assessed. While about one-third of the employee respondents indicated being “very satisfied” with their jobs, less than 10% of HR professionals perceived employees in this way. What’s this tell you about HR  Employees 36-55 were most satisfied with their current jobs and those 35 and under were the least satisfied.

The End Any questions?
