Fairy Tales Begin with “Once Upon a Time . . .” Are usually about imaginary creatures who grant wishes and cast spells. End with “happily ever after . . .”
(and almost all stories) Fairy Tales (and almost all stories) Contain: A setting, characters, a problem, and a solution
The setting tells the reader the place and time the story takes place. Here are some examples:

Can you guess what story this setting is from? But, for the poor unhappy girl, there was nothing at all. No dresses, only her stepsisters' hand-me-downs. No lovely dishes, nothing but scraps. No nice rests and comfort. For she had to work hard all day, and only when evening came was she allowed to sit for a while by the fire, near the cinders.

Characters Can you name some fairy tale characters? Are the people or animals in the story. There are usually one or two main characters in a story. Can you name some fairy tale characters?
Describe the problems in it. In the story Cinderella has several problems. What is your favorite fairy tale? What are they? Describe the problems in it.
And of course, the characters should live happily ever after…. Solution The solution tells us how the problem was solved. And of course, the characters should live happily ever after….
