expectations All of the students will be entering the class with different skill levels! - This class is designed to teach to each students development level - We will be using scaffold learning to meet the needs of all students We do expect your child to be potty trained They should be able to respond to their name They should be able to identify some colors and shapes

Social emotional goals It is our hope that by the end of this school year your student will be able to: Follow verbal directions Showing empathy toward other children Starting to show self control Becoming interested in playing with other children (parallel play) Sharing/taking turns Communicate with peers and adults appropriately Listen when others are speaking Sit and focus on an activity for short time periods Ask questions

Academic goals This is a social based preschool but we want the students to be prepared for kindergarten. It is our hope that they will learn: Positional words Sorting: size, shape, and colors Patterns Colors Sequencing Shapes Letter and sound identification Letters Blending sounds Numbers 1-20 and counting Sight words Writing their first and last names Opposites rhyming

Fine and gross motor skills Fine motor Gross motor Holding a pencil/crayon correctly (pincher grasp) Riding a tricycle Bouncing a ball Coloring in the lines Throwing a ball Printing first and last name Jumping Using scissors correctly Running Tracing lines and shapes Hopping on one foot Printing letters and numbers

Homework policy Homework will be given out every Monday It needs to be completed and returned the following Monday What will be for homework? - Bringing in an object for the color and shape of the week -letter or number writing worksheet -each child will be assigned a day for their ‘all about me’ poster and show and tell

Class structure Structure is very important for students! What their day will look like: Drop off Students will enter and trace or write their names We will transition to circle time We will then start centers Indoor free play Snack Outside free play Pick up

Behavior chart Green: They are following directions and acting appropriate Yellow: they will receive a verbal warning and be asked to move their stick Red: They will receive a note home about why they were struggling in class and they will move their stick Students that get to red will have to sit down with the teacher and talk about what might be causing the problem. We hope that talking about the issue with the student will help prevent issues in the future

Drop off policy Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes before the start of the day Hang up coats and have any homework in hand Line up outside the classroom with your child When the doors open we will greet each child individually Once your child has been greeted and enters the classroom you may leave

Birthdays and snack Your child will be assigned 2-3 days during the school year that you are required to provide a snack for the class. This requires a healthy snack and juice. Birthdays: each of your students will be celebrating their birthday during the school year. If your child has a summer birthday we will celebrate on their half birthday. Birthday snacks: you may bring in a special treat on your child’s birthday, this would be one of the assigned days. Birthday readers: family members are invited to come in on their child’s birthday and read the students favorite book to the class. This will happen the last 15 minutes of class.

sickness If your child is sick please keep them at home. We do not want to spread germs around to other students or staff. If they have a fever, diarrhea, and/or vomiting keep them home for at least 24 hours after the symptoms have stopped. We do not have a nurse on hand therefore if your child is sick someone will need to come and pick them up Bathroom accidents: if your child has occasional accidents please send in a change of clothes in a bag labeled with the students name. you will be called and notified of any accidents.
