Murfreesboro, TN ; Baking Marisa Sotelo Murfreesboro, TN ; Baking Summer 2016 MEA Intern Project Review Manager: Rachel Polak Good morning! My name is Marisa Sotelo, and this summer I was an MEA intern in the Murfreesboro plant supporting Baking.

Safety Contact Have a plan Inform someone of where you're going and when you plan to return Keep a flashlight and whistle with you Eat well, stay hydrated: carry plenty of water Stay on the trail Ask for HELP! Familiarize yourself with the area, use a map Expect changes in the weather Since I am the first presenter in the room, I’m going to kick this morning off with a safety contact because we want to make sure to always keep safety at the forefront of everything we do. This summer one of the activities that the interns in Murfreesboro did was hiking. The hike that we did was about 2 miles long round trip and because it was such a quick hike, we didn’t take very much with us. When we were a mile into the hike it started pouring rain which caused us to turn around and it didn’t stop pouring until we got all the way back to our cars. Thankfully no one was hurt, we were just all a little soaked. So today I was to remind everyone to HIKE SAFE. As long as you follow these steps to: Have a plan Inform someone of where you're going and when you plan to return Keep a flashlight and whistle with you Eat well, stay hydrated: carry plenty of water Stay on the trail Ask for HELP! Familiarize yourself with the area, use a map Expect changes in the weather You will have a great time, be prepared for anything, and most importantly come back safe! https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/hikingsafety.htm

Agenda About Me Murfreesboro Site My Projects Additional Opportunities Today I’m going to tell you a little bit about me, about the Murfreesboro site, about the projects I worked on this summer, and some of the additional opportunities and experiences that I had while in Murfreesboro.

About Me A little bit about me, I was born and raised in Kansas City, KS .I attend school at Kansas State University where I am studying Industrial Engineering with a minor in Business. Here are some pictures of some of the things that I love to do. I love the lake, just being outdoors, and I love spending time with my friends and family. This is my second summer interning for General Mills. Last summer I worked at the Albuquerque, NM plant supporting Nature Valley. I was so proud and excited to come back to work for a company whose purpose and pursuits are at the forefront of everything they do, and whose pursuits are ones that I try to embody an a daily basis. Purpose: We serve the world by making food people love. Pursuits: Put people first, Build a culture of creating, Make food with passion, Earn peoples trust, Treat the world with care. 1

Murfreesboro Site 1 Site 3 Operating Units 2 Our Murfreesboro site is one site supporting three different Operating Units: Baking, Yoplait, and Consumer & Food Services. Our Murfreesboro Compelling Business need is “Choosing Zero Ensuring our Future” which really means choosing zero in everything we do and also making sure that everything that we do contributes to our goals of 0 food safety events, 8 unit stops, and 99% casefill. 1 Site 3 Operating Units 2

The second project that I was able to work on was an RBG skills matrix The second project that I was able to work on was an RBG skills matrix. Because of the expansion caused by Project Stratos in RBG there was a need for this project to drive linear cell capability, since 50% of our people from the past couple years in the RBG department are new hires. RBG Skills Matrix 13

Key Deliverables Build relationships in RBG to lead development and creation of Skills Matrix Develop Skills Matrix that enables optimal managing and tracking of skill qualifications by cell The key deliverables for this project were to Build relationships in the RBG to lead development and creation of Skills Matrix. And, develop a Skills Matrix that enabled optimal managing and tracking of skill qualifications by cell. 14

Action Collaborated with RBG key stakeholders Ability to distinguish training status Record qualification date When building this skills matrix I collaborated with RBG key stakeholders in order to ensure that tool aligned with new cell structure. And created a matrix with the ability to distinguish training status, record qualification date, track SME’s and Off Team Skills, and determine Strength of the cell. Track SME’s and Off Team Skills Determine Strength of the cell Collaborated with RBG key stakeholders Ensure that tool aligned with new cell structure 16

Results Created OPL to utilize this tool Scheduled training with the Management Coordinators and Training Coordinators on use of the tool Drive repeatable success and sustainability Easy identification of training needs RBG TEAM OF 60CELLS OF 20 OR LESS The results of this project were that I created OPL to utilize this tool, and scheduled a training with the Management Coordinators and Training Coordinators on use of the tool in order to drive repeatable success and sustainability and allow easy identification of training needs. Creating this skills matrix was able to take an RBG team of 60 people into cells of 20 or less people. People are a part of everything we do and we really want to put our employees first. By reducing the number of people in each cell, we are able to better develop and equip our people with the capabilities to make our product every day and feel safe and supported doing it. By building linear cell capability in RBG we are better able to meet our CBN goals of 0 food safety events, 8 unit stops, and 99% casefill. 17

Career Building Experiences RBG DDS (Daily Direction Setting) Meetings Salaried Off-Site Meeting Lunch & Learns Intern Networking Calls Off-Shift Experience Women’s Network Meetings Covington Plant Tour & Networking Some of the additional career building experiences I’ve had in Murfreesboro are: a Salaried Off-Site Meeting, Lunch & Learns with the PLT, Off-Shift Experience, and a chance to network and go on a plant tour with Covington. 19

Intern Events I had an amazing summer in Murfreesboro, and exploring Nashville. Some of the highlights of my summer were volunteering with the other interns for Stuff the bus for United Way were we raised school supplies for a local elementary school, and the doughboy 5k challenge for charity were the proceeds went to 3 local charities in the Murfreesboro area. 20

-Drive repeatable Success Reflection -Servant Leadership -Communication -Seize Opportunities -Agility -Drive repeatable Success -Ownership -Leverage Expertise -Strategic Planning -Ask Questions! First Internship Second Internship Additional learning opportunity: -Zero Loss Culture -My Role This is my third internship experience and I really feel like all the things that I have learned, have been able to leverage and utilize in my next experiences. This summer I really took everything I learned and was able to really learn agility in my job, learned to drive repeatable success, and really take ownership of my projects. Some additional learning opportunities are to gain a better understanding of Zero Loss Culture and determine the role that I play , now and possibly in the future. How I can Inspire, Light, Engage, Activate and Develop (ILEAD) 21
